LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has identified the Lucerne man killed in a solo-vehicle crash near Upper Lake last week.

Frederick M. Burns IV, 56, died following a crash that occurred just before 1:30 p.m. Friday on Highway 20 just east of Upper Lake Lucerne Road.

Burns was driving a 1996 Ford Ranger eastbound on Highway 20 at an unknown speed when the pickup went off the highway and overturned while going down an embankment, coming to rest in a ditch containing water.

The California Highway Patrol’s Clear Lake Area office said Burns, who was not wearing a seat belt, was declared dead about an hour after the crash at Sutter Lakeside Hospital.

The CHP said the crash remains under investigation.
