Lakeport City Council to get police updates, make fire board appointment

LAKEPORT, Calif. — The Lakeport City Council will hear police updates, hold a public hearing on vacancy rates and make a Lakeport Fire Board appointment this week.

The council will meet Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall, 225 Park St.

On Tuesday, the Lakeport Police Department will present its officer of the year award and announce staff promotions for sergeant and lieutenant.

Later in the meeting, the police department will offer reports on police statistics, training, and use of force analysis for 2025.

The council also is set to hold its annual public hearing review of employee vacancy rates in
Conformance with AB2561 (GC §3502.3).

In other business, the council will consider appointing Joseph Szupello to the Lakeport Fire Protection District Board effective Feb. 17, and expiring Dec. 31, 2026.

On the consent agenda — items considered noncontroversial and usually accepted as a slate on one vote — are ordinances; minutes of the regular City Council meeting on Feb. 3; approval of application 2026-009, with staff recommendations, for the 2026 Sutter Health & Wellness Expo; approval of application 2026-010, with staff recommendations, for the 2026 Lakeport Camp & Shine car show; approval of the 2025 Water & Sewer Master Plan Updates as presented for final acceptance; and adopt the proposed ordinance amending Sections 5.34.020 (“Definitions”) and 5.34.090 (“Commercial Cannabis Performance Standards”) of Chapter 5.34 (“Commercial Cannabis”) of Title 5 (“Business Taxes, Licenses and Regulations”) of the Lakeport Municipal Code to allow limited temporary cannabis events at the Lake County Fairgrounds, and find that the proposed ordinance is in the public interest, consistent with the Lakeport General Plan, will not be detrimental to the public health, safety, and welfare, and is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Sections 15301 and 15061(b)(3).
