GenX Cinema features ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ ‘Green Mile’ Jan. 20

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The GenX Cinema series presents a double feature, with Steven Spielberg’s “Saving Private Ryan” and Frank Darabont’s “The Green Mile,” on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Soper Reese Theatre in Lakeport.

Entry is by donation. No host beer bar will be open; additional refreshments will be on sale at the concession stand including popcorn and candy.

“Saving Private Ryan” is about the search for a missing soldier just after the World War II D-Day invasion in Normandy.

The film breaks new ground in content and style. It merges some of the most realistic and disturbing battle footage ever included in a feature film with a touching human story.

It stars Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, with music by John Williams. The film won five Academy Awards.

“The Green Mile” is based on Stephen King’s novel and directed by Frank Darabont, who also directed “The Shawshank Redemption,” which means you can expect unusual plot twists and turns, and a dash of the supernatural.

It stars Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan. The film garnered four Oscar nominations including Best Picture.

“Saving Private Ryan” was made in 1998, is rated R, with run time of two hours 49 minutes. “The Green Mile” was made in 1999, is rated R, with run time of three hours, nine minutes.

The films are sponsored by Performance Mechanical, and are jointly presented by the Lake County Theatre Co. and the Soper Reese Theatre.
