
LAKEPORT, Calif. – The 1961 musical, “West Side Story,” starring Natalie Wood, Richard Beymer and Rita Moreno, screens at the Soper Reese Theatre on Tuesday, March 12, at 1 and 6 p.m.
Entry to the film is by donation.
“West Side Story” remains perhaps the most iconic of all the Shakespeare adaptations to visit the big screen.
Starring Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer, the film was buoyed by Robert Wise's dazzling direction, Leonard Bernstein's score and Stephen Sondheim's lyrics.
This 1960s New York City tough streets version of Romeo and Juliet received 10 Oscars plus a special award for Jerome Robbins’ dynamic choreography.
The movie is sponsored by the Lakeport Women’s Club. Rated PG. Run time is 2 hours and 31 minutes.
