Lucerne community garden group meets Saturday

LUCERNE – Lucerne FLOW now has a contract signed with the county of Lake to begin active work on Lucerne's new community garden project.

A planning meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the garden site, located on Highway 20 at 13th Avenue. There is a brown fence and sign at the site that says “community access.”

At the meeting participants can sign up for the garden, help make plans or just be there as one of the friends of the garden.

The group plans to do composting, build the garden soil and fence the specific garden area in the next few months. They also will set up a watering system.

This site is a community access area with fruit and nut trees. There also is an area where the locals frequently fish.

Garden participants can have small plots as they are available.

This is to be an organic garden and the group hopes the entire community will participate either in working in the garden or supporting the garden with knowledge and presence.

Donations and gardening supplies also are needed.
