The stories and poems of Edgar Allan Poe will be the focus of the Lake County Big Read, and the program includes a number of fun, interesting, and creative community events, such as:
Pear Festival Booth: Sept. 24.
Teen Film Festival, Lower Lake School House Museum: Oct. 14.
Film Festival, Moore Family Winery: Oct. 15.
Keynote session and planetarium show at the Taylor Observatory: Oct. 22.
A variety of book clubs throughout Lake County: September-October.
The film festivals will highlight the winners of our local short film contest, and a traveling art exhibit will be shown at the Big Read events, as well as other locations around Lake County.
All artwork and films are to be influenced by a story or poem of the featured writer, Edgar Allan Poe.
Art work can be created using all mediums, including clay, paint, pencil, re-cycled materials, photography, etc. They ask that all flat pieces be matted or framed and ready for display.
For school groups, winning selections can be framed if needed. Film projects should be an adaptation of a work of Poe.
DVDs should be five minutes or less and winning films will be shown at our Big Read Film Festival. A short summary connecting art and literature must be included with all entries.
Selected art work will be on display at the LCOE office and the Main Street Gallery in Lakeport during the month of October.
The deadline for art projects is Friday, Sept. 23.
All Lake County schools can utilize the LCOE courier system. Individual artists can bring their work to the Lake County Office of Education, 1152 S. Main St., Lakeport, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 23.
