KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The Redbud Audubon Society will hold its first program meeting of the season on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Presbyterian Church Social Hall, 5430 Third St. Kelseyville, starting at 7 p.m.
The featured topic is “The Natural History of Turkey Vultures.”
The ubiquitous turkey vulture is often taken for granted and even reviled by some, but scientists Greg Giusti and Bob Keiffer both find the turkey vulture fascinating and worthy of study, which is what they are doing at the Hopland Field Station.
Giusti, who is a wild land ecologist with the UC Cooperative Extension, will provide details of a research project that both he and Keiffer are conducting at the U.C. Hopland Field Station. He will explain what they are trying to accomplish, mostly focusing on nest tree characteristics.
Keiffer, a center superintendent at the field station will provide a natural history overview of the birds, including range and behaviors. He should have many interesting pictures from at least two years of images captured by motion cameras, to share with the audience.
The public is invited to this fascinating program on one of nature’s most valuable creatures.
