Clear Lake Soroptimists to hear about Imagination Library May 23

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – Soroptimist International Clear Lake will hold its regular monthly program meeting on Thursday, May 23.

The meeting will be held at Howard's Grotto, 14732 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.

Lunch, which costs $12, begins at noon, to be followed by the program.

Vice President Kathy Freeborn has arranged to have Stephanie Wayment from the Office of Education present a program on the Imagination Library, a literacy program for young mothers developed by Dolly Parton to provide books for children 0 to 4 years of age.

The books are mailed to enrolled families to be read to the child by their first teacher, their mother, to give them a head start before they begin their formal education.

The agenda also will include a presentation by member Sally Munger on the beginning of the Clear Lake Soroptimist Club in 1964.

There will be an update annual yard sale, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, in Silk’s parking lot.

Co-chairs Fawn Williams and Brenda Crandall have been busy gathering lots of interesting items such as jewelry, clothes of all sizes, household items, tools and miscellaneous.

Soroptimist is a cause-related philanthropic organization whose main purpose is to rise funds to develop programs to improve the lives of women and girls, locally and internationally.

The group meets twice monthly the Second and Fourth Thursdays at Howard's Grotto. The meetings are open to all women.
