Zimmerman to speak on astronomy, cosmology March 22

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Lake County News' astronomy columnist John Zimmerman will speak at the Taylor Observatory on Saturday, March 22.

The special lecture will begin at 8 p.m. at the Taylor Observatory-Norton Planetarium, 5725 Oak Hills Lane, Kelseyville.

It will be followed by a planetarium show and telescope viewing.

Zimmerman, who authors the monthly “Lake County Skies” column for Lake County News, will address the compelling topic “From Stonehenge to Hubble: A History of Astronomy and Cosmology.”

He will explain the difference between astronomy and cosmology, how both disciplines interact, and how their historical growth has influenced our view of the universe and our place in it.

John Zimmerman has been “Mr. Astronomy” in Lake County for many years. Reflecting this deep interest, he owns numerous telescopes, including one that talks.

A former Taylor Observatory assistant, John has recently moved to a position on the Friends of Taylor Board Observatory of Directors.

Admission is $5 for adult and $3 for children under 12.
