Safety project to improve US Highway 101 ramps In Ukiah begins June 4

UKIAH, Calif. – Caltrans reported that a safety project to improve onramps and offramps along US Highway 101 through Ukiah will begin Wednesday, June 4.

This project will install a high-friction surface to increase traction all year round.

The high friction surface will be installed by first removing the existing pavement markings, then applying a coating of epoxy resin to the existing asphalt followed by a layer of synthetic aggregate, and finally the pavement will be restriped.

The entire process is anticipated to be completed by the end of June.

Work will occur at night, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning.

Traffic on US Highway 101 will be restricted to one lane in each direction of travel, and motorist may experience minor traffic slowdowns.

Selected ramps at South State Street/Route 253 (Exit 546), Talmage Road/Route 222 (Exit 548A), Gobbi Street (Exit 548B), Perkins Street (Exit 549), and North State Street (Exit 551) will be intermittently closed.

No two consecutive ramps will be closed at a time. Motorists will be advised to seek an alternate route.

Regular updates on scheduled ramp closures will be posted to Twitter (CaltransDist1) and Facebook (CaltransD1). These Twitter and Facebook updates can also be freely read without an account at www.dot.ca.gov/dist1/ .
