LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lake County Deputy Sheriff's Association will host the annual Steel and Three Gun Challenge this Saturday, May 31.
The event will take place at the Highland Springs Range outside of Lakeport.
Check-in takes place from 7 to 8:30 a.m., with a safety briefing at 8:30 a.m. and the shoot to begin at 9 a.m.
The registration fee is $35 per person, which includes one T-shirt, one raffle ticket, one lunch ticket and entry into either the steel shoot or three gun shoot. Entry into the second shoot will be additional $10.
Steel divisions include junior (12-17 years), women's pistol, men's pistol, revolver, law enforcement and senior (65 years and up). The competition rules are limited to one division per shooter. Additional entries may be available on the day of the event.
Juniors will need to have a parent/guardian sign a waiver on the day of the event. Law enforcement only will be eligible to compete in the law enforcement division.
On the Steel Course, each participant will shoot four courses of fire. Total score will be the combined time with any penalties added. Prior to the match, all range and course rules will be covered by the rangemaster.
The Three Gun Course for 2014 is an individual event. Each competitor will be responsible for bringing their own rim fire rifle, shotgun and pistol for the event.
A rim fire rifle and shotgun will be provided by the DSA for any competitor wishing to enter the event and do not own a rim fire rifle or shotgun, capable of firing slugs. All range and course rules will be covered by the rangemaster.
Only factory ammunition will be allowed; no reloads.
Awards include trophies for the top shooter in each steel division. The winner of each steel division will compete for the top gun award, the trophy for the top three gun competitors and bragging rights.
The Lakeport Volunteer Firefighter's Association will host a barbecue tri-tip lunch. The $10 per-plate coast includes sandwich, chips and a drink. Participants receive one lunch ticket with their entry. Additional lunch tickets can be purchased at the event.
There will be raffle donations from local businesses, to include multiple guns. One need not be a competitor to enter raffle. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20. You must be present to win.
T-shirts will be for sale the day of the event for $15 each for sizes medium, large and extra large, and $20 for XXL and XXXL.
