Lake County Historical Society plans Nov. 16 Thanksgiving dinner

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – Bernie Butcher, owner and proprietor of the Tallman Hotel and Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake, will present a program on the history of Upper Lake at the Lake County Historical Society Thanksgiving dinner meeting on Sunday, Nov. 16.

The meeting starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Live Oak Senior Center, located at 12502 Foothill Blvd near the Oaks Plaza Park.

Butcher says that this slideshow presentation will introduce the geography of the county, the historical evolution of Upper Lake on the confluence of the streams entering the lake as a transport hub and market town, the history of the Tallman Family in building a hotel, saloon and livery stable business, the decline of the town and that business and finally efforts by Bernie and his wife Lynne to rehabilitate the hotel and rebuild the saloon into a popular restaurant.

Dinner tickets for Lake County Historical Society members are $15 each and for guests are $18 each.
