LAKEPORT, Calif. – The 1965 epic, “Dr. Zhivago,” screens on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the Soper Reese Theatre in Lakeport.

Show times are 1 and 6 p.m.

Winner of five Academy Awards, the film stars Omar Sharif and Julie Christie, and is set in Russia during the Bolshevik revolution and World War I.

British director David Lean made the film from Boris Pasternak’s book which was banned in Russia at the time of filming.

Sweeping cinematography and a compelling musical score bring life to the passionate but doomed romance between the high society doctor/poet of the film’s title and Lara, the beautiful daughter of a seamstress. Rated PG-13 for mature themes.

Entry to the film is by donation.
