LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Konocti Rod and Gun Club and the Lake County 4-H are holding their 13th annual Free Family Fun Shoot on Saturday, August 5, at the shooting range across from Highland Springs parks.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All shooting supplies and firearms will be provided for free.
This event is a one-of-a-kind event in California. Many clubs have caught onto the “Family Fun Shoot” idea throughout the state and country and charge between $10 and $75 for participants.
This public event is unique, in that all the ammunition and firearms are provided, free of charge. One-on-one coaching at each shooting position maintains a safe and friendly learning environment.
The event is overseen by a certified range safety officer at all times and there are multiple instructors coaching the individual stations.
There are dozens of targets placed on the range from 25 feet to 200 yards. There are rubber and steel reactive targets, hanging plate steel and containers filled with flour. You'll know when you hit one of those.
On the line, they will have 10 different shooting stations to visit with a variety of firearms: .22-caliber single shot rifles, .22-caliber semi-auto rifles, center fire bolt action rifles, center fire semi-auto rifles, black powder rifles and 12- and 20-gauge shotguns.
One station even has a target retrieval system to bring your target back in so you can take it home.
This is truly a family oriented event. Parents and children alike have a great time and learn about safety, shooting and firearms, in a safe, fun and controlled environment.
There will be free safety literature on safe firearms handling and safe firearms storage in the home. There will be free gun locks for all participants.
Bring your family out for a free day of fun and safe shooting at the Konocti Rod and Gun Club range at the end of Highland Springs Road in Lakeport, across from Highland Springs Park.
A lunch of large hot dogs, chips and water will be provided free at the event.
