LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Elle Snow, human trafficking survivor and founder of the anti-trafficking organization “Game Over,” is returning to Lake County to conduct human trafficking prevention training at the Robinson Rancheria Resort & Casino conference center on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and Wednesday, Sept. 20.
The training is free of charge and consists of two, one-day workshops titled “Why I Didn’t Run.”
In June, Snow spoke to a large crowd at the Lodge at Blue Lakes, answering questions and beginning the conversation about the sexual exploitation of young people, mostly girls, by traffickers who are now targeting rural communities such as Lake County.
Recently featured on CNN, Snow has conducted trainings in Mendocino and Humboldt counties.
While in Lake County she will conduct a special training exclusively for law enforcement followed by two days of training for service providers, those who work with at-risk youth, foster parents, young adults and foster teens, concerned parents and community members interested in learning how to prevent trafficking from taking hold in our rural communities.
The workshop shatters myths about human trafficking; identifies traffickers, buyers and victims; reveals the strategies used by traffickers to lure and control victims; and addresses the support services available for victims to help with their recovery.
Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino is located at 1545 E. Hwy 20 in Nice. The training on both days begins at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m. A one-hour lunch break will be provided. There is a restaurant on site as well as other dining establishments nearby.
Participants can register at the door or preregister online at www.eventbrite.com via the event search feature for trafficking and exploitation.
Due to limited seating, on Sept. 19 preference for the training will be given to the Lake Family Resource Center and their partners. All others are encouraged to attend on Sept. 20.
The event is sponsored by the Lake Family Resource Center, Redwood Community Services Inc. and Soroptimist International of Clear Lake.
