Congressman Thompson hires Lake County native to work in district office

NAPA, Calif. – Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced Wednesday that he has hired Shao-Jia Chang to work in his Napa District office, joining Brad Onorato and Maira Ayala in serving constituents in both Napa and Lake counties.

“I’m excited to have Shao join our team to help serve the people of Napa and Lake counties,” said Rep. Thompson. “Shao is dedicated, hard-working, and, having grown up in Lake County, is very familiar with our community and the issues we care most about. I’m confident she will do amazing work for our District.”

Chang has lived in Lake County since her family immigrated to the United States from Taiwan when she was 2 years old.

She attended Lakeport schools and graduated from Clear Lake High School as class valedictorian. She went on to graduate from the University of California, Berkeley with two degrees in legal studies and psychology.

As a UC Berkeley student, she was a mentor with Berkeley United in Literacy Development, an organization dedicated to helping underserved students in the area, and served as president of Berkeley Legal Studies Association and Oratory at Berkeley, a public speaking group on campus.

Most recently, Chang was a Robert T. Matsui Fellow in Congressmen Thompson’s Washington, DC office where she served as constituents’ first point of contact and assisted staff with policy work.

Thompson represents California’s Fifth Congressional District, which includes all or part of Contra Costa, Lake, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties.
