Sheriff’s office warns of new phone scam

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is warning community members to be on the lookout regarding a new phone scam.

The agency reported that it has become aware of a scam where people may receive a call on their home or cellular phone with the caller I.D. that indicates the call is from their own phone number.

When answered the recording will say, “Your account has been flagged for security purposes. Please enter your primary account holder’s social security number.”

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that you should not give out personal or account information to anyone who calls you without being able to verify the caller’s identity.
