Three charities vie for funds from 100+ Women Strong at year’s first meeting

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The group 100+ Women Strong of Lake County held its first meeting of 2018 at Konocti Vista Resort and Marina on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Konocti Vista Resort and Marina provided the beautifully decorated venue and appetizers plus a no host bar. There was mingling, networking, food and beverages, and most importantly, three presentations by local Lake County nonprofits that resulted in an award of $17,000.

The group is part of a worldwide coalition of similar organizations; the Lake County Chapter was created in February 2017 and has raised more than $80,000 to date for Lake County nonprofit organizations.

The group consists of women from all age groups, walks of life and professions. The commitment to donate $100, four times a year to Lake County charities, unites them.

The group meets once every three months in different locations around the county. Three pre-vetted charitable organizations are invited to give brief presentations in hopes of being selected by 100+ Women Strong in Lake County.

One of the three charities is selected by majority vote of the group after the presentations and receives $100 from each and every member of the 100+ Women Strong.

The goal is to raise $10,000 each quarter but the total for each meeting has exceeded $15,000.

The February presenters were SPCA of Clearlake, Shop with a Cop Program and Eric Paredes Save a Life Foundation.

The Shop with a Cop Program, which originated shortly after the Valley fire to offer children who lost everything the opportunity to spend $200 while shopping with local law enforcement at Walmart in Clearlake, was the grand prize winner of $17,000. The program has since expanded to children throughout Lake County.

“When 100+ Women Strong in Lake County gives as one it translates to making a lasting difference and positive impact one local non-profit at a time,” explained one of the group’s founders, Jennifer Taylor.

The group offered a huge thank you to Konocti Vista Resort and Marina for hosting its event. The hospitality was gracious and staff was accommodating. They ensured the meeting was seamless and all of the group’s needs were met.

The next meeting is Thursday, May 10, at Chacewater Winery and Olive Mill located at 5625 Gaddy Lane, Kelseyville. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the, meeting starts promptly at 6:30 p.m.

First-time visitors are welcome to attend meetings.
