MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – KC Patrick will be the featured speaker at the upcoming Fireside Chat at the Gibson Museum & Cultural Center in Middletown.
The chat will take place beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14.
“I’d become accustomed to seeing my grandmother’s DNA in my mirror,” Patrick said, “but I was surprised to find my grandfather’s name on a grant deed when I first started working for the museum.”
Patrick is now onsite manager for Gibson Museum & Cultural Center in Middletown, on duty there during the museum’s open hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p..
Her insights instigated the offer of noontime replays of the most famous Fireside Chats, those by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the 1930s years of the Great Depression. Just drop in at Gibson and ask.
On April 14, she’ll share tips for finding how history is directly or indirectly connected to you at Gibson Museum’s Fireside Chat.
Patrick was a fourth generation local child in north Lake County, although her aunt and uncle and cousins lived in Middletown. She headed east immediately following her school years.
Her return to Lake County was made public with publication in 2008 of her photo book “The Pomo of Lake County.”
A retired writer/editor turned storyteller and poet, Patrick brings a sharp eye and inquiring mind to her work for Lake County museums.
Her wry sense of humor brightens the mix. Musing on the county’s early cattle industry, she wrote: “I wondered if the U.S.-Mexico war echoed the Romans’ failure to conquer cattle-rich Spain. It’s all a neverending story leading from one age to the next.”
Gibson’s Fireside Chats are free of charge, although donations to support museum work are welcomed.
The talks begin at 3 pm the second Saturday of each month. Questions are welcomed after the speaker’s initial presentation.
Gibson Museum is located at 21267 Calistoga Road (Highway 29), across the street from Middletown Square.
