KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – It’s all about telescopes on Saturday, April 28, during the monthly “Window to the Universe” program at Taylor Observatory.
The evening of stargazing and fun will take place from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the observatory, located at 5725 Oak Hills Lane, Kelseyville.
Thinking about buying a telescope or have one you don’t know how to use? Amateur astronomer Tom Schlief will explain how a “GOTO” computer-controlled scope works.
Schlief got into astrophotography about four years ago and has rapidly learned planetary, lunar and deep sky photography. He will share some of the photos he has taken to give you an idea what can be seen and photographed from your backyard in Lake County’s spectacular dark skies.
Schlief’s lecture will take place from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., and will be followed by a planetarium full dome show and tutorial on April constellations by Eduardo Alatorre.
Bring your own telescope Saturday night if you would like some help from Taylor astronomers. Be among the first to experience the new 18” Dobsonian scope, just received this week from Teeter Telescopes in New Jersey, during the telescope viewing rom 9 to 10:30 p.m. It should be an enchanting full-moon evening on the new Charles Nieman Star Deck.
Admission is $5 for adults and is free to Lake County students ages kindergarten to 12th. Additional donations in support of Lake County STEM education are encouraged.
