KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – The annual Lake County Historical Society picnic and barbecue will be held on Sunday, May 20, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ely Stage Stop and County Museum.
Tom Nixon will speak about both Clear Lake and Mt. Konocti. “These two physical features of this county fix neatly into my love of our county, so I will share information and stories of both,” he said.
Nixon is a retired California State Park ranger who served for 23 years at Clear Lake State Park and Anderson Marsh State Historic Park as part of his 30 year career.
In his retirement he has volunteered for the county of Lake Department of Public Services as the project and docent coordinator for Mount Konocti County Park through Konocti Regional Trails. He currently is working with the Middle Creek Restoration Coalition to return tradition wetlands to the north lake shore area of Clear Lake. He is a graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in history.
The public is invited to join the group and bring friends. LCHS members attend the May 20 event free. Non-member guests over 18 are request to donate $5, however, this donation can apply to a LCHS Membership at the picnic.
The historical society supplies hamburgers, hot dogs, buns and light refreshments. Attendees are request to bring a dish to share, a plate and utensils. Cold dishes must be iced.
