CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clearlake Oaks-Glenhaven Business Association has donated $5,000 to 4-H and is supporting Pawnee Fire survivors.

“We have an important announcement to make,” said President Margaret Medeiros at the May meeting of the Clearlake Oaks-Glenhaven Business Association.

On hand was 4-H member Gracie Tucker, an AP/Honor Roll student from Lower Lake High School, and her 4-H friends.

“Gracie submitted a request for funding support on behalf of a group of delegates she said had grown up in 4-H and had been involved several years in the Lake County Citizenship and Leadership Project. The project includes a history and government focused tour of the east coast,” Medeiros said.

As an 11-year member of Anderson Marsh 4-H, Tucker raises sheep, goats, horses, chickens and rabbits. She’s active in many school activities and has volunteered since she was a first grader at the annual Catfish Derby, a one of a kind fishing derby sponsored by the Association.

Tucker also has participated in the annual Wreaths Across America program. Most recently, she and her 4-H friends have been busy raising money for the leadership project.

Medeiros explained the board was impressed with Tucker’s leadership in making the request as well as the group’s efforts to raise the money they needed for the project.

“These young Lake County delegates have already raised $13,000 and our $5,000 donation is the exact amount still needed to enable them to visit Washington D.C, Philadelphia, New York City and Boston and learn about our Government,” Medeiros said.

In accepting the donation Tucker thanked the association and offered to return after their trip to make a report, an offer gladly accepted by the association members.

Also, in June, the association stepped up to support the Moose Lodge during the Pawnee fire. A request from County Supervisor Jim Steele for a donation to pay for portable bathrooms was quickly approved by the Board of Directors.

“We were happy to be able to help during the emergency that hit our neighbors and members in Spring Valley so hard,” Medeiros said.

The next meeting of the association is on July 26, 5:30 p.m., at the Live Oak Senior Center in Clearlake Oaks. The featured guest speaker is Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.

The association is open to business owners and individuals who have an interest in the Clearlake Oaks and Glenhaven communities and new members are always welcome.
