LOWER LAKE, Calif. – Lakeport Mayor Mireya Turner spoke at the Lake County Democratic Club on July 11.
Turner spoke on the real benefits that Lake County is already receiving from the taxes now being collected under SB 1, commonly known as The Gas Tax.
SB 1, also known as the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, is a long-term transportation solution that provides new revenues for road safety improvements, filling potholes and repairing local streets, highways and bridges.
In the fiscal year 2018-19 alone, an infusion of more than $2.5 million will be allocated to Lake County. And over the next 10 years, the county will receive over $39.5 million.
Under Proposition 69 just passed in the June primary, this funding is constitutionally protected and guarantees transportation funds can only be used for transportation improvement purposes and not for other projects.
Turner understands the importance of these funds to our community. She stressed the importance of opposing the repeal of the gas tax on the November ballot.
