Lakeport Police issue reminder to residents who refused to evacuate from city

LAKEPORT, Calif. – The Lakeport Police Department said that anyone who remains in the city limits of Lakeport despite the mandatory evacuation order for the River fire must remain on their property.

“If you are running low on supplies please consider evacuating the city to another area that is not under a current evacuation order,” the agency said.

Any unauthorized person who willfully and knowingly enters a disaster area and who willfully remains within the area after receiving notice to evacuate or leave shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

The Lakeport Police Department and allied law enforcement agencies are actively patrolling Lakeport for unauthorized entry into evacuation areas. Many arrests have been made for violating this criminal statute.

“We have made many stops of persons who haven't evacuated and are moving about the community. These stops are taking up valuable law enforcement resources,” the agency said.
