COBB, Calif. – On Saturday, Sept. 22, a membership drive will be held for the Friends of Boggs Mountain at the Calso Campground area of Boggs Demonstration State Forest.

The event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. and a barbecue lunch will be served while it lasts. Please bring a folding chair.

With their new members, the group hopes to find representatives from the interest groups using the forest so that we eventually create a balanced representation of members in these categories and related activities:

▪ Hiking/Naturalist;
▪ Mountain biking;
▪ Horseback riding;
▪ Target shooting/hunting;
▪ Archery.

Friends of Boggs Mountain encourages visitors to consider becoming a member. Your support helps the group’s mission and work in forest stewardship, education, and improving recreational experiences at Boggs.

As a member, you’ll receive our quarterly newsletter and will be included in our email alerts for upcoming events.

Membership levels:

▪ $20 Individual;
▪ $35 Family/Supporting;
▪ $100 Patron;
▪ $500 Lifetime.

In 2015 the 76,067-acre Valley fire burned from Cobb down through Middletown in one day driven by extreme winds and dry fuels.

It is estimated that 98 percent of the 3,493-acre Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest was impacted by the fire.

Because of the fire damage and the vast amount of work needed to make it safe for public use, the forest was closed until summer of 2018.

For more than 16 years, Friends of Boggs Mountain has been working to enhance the visitor's experience at Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest and will be working directly with Cal Fire to restore the trail system in Boggs.

Join them Sept. 22 to learn more and find out how you can help with the group’s biggest project yet.

Receive a free gift if you renew your annual membership at this event.
