Mendocino National Forest offices to close on upcoming holidays

MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. – The Mendocino National Forest Supervisor’s Office and Ranger District offices will close three times during the next six weeks in observance of federal holidays.

Offices will close on:

· Tuesday, Dec. 25, for Christmas. Offices will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

Visitors are reminded that the last day to purchase Mendocino Christmas tree permits is Friday, Dec. 21, and the last day to cut a tree is Monday, Dec. 24.

More information is available online at https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/mendocino/passes-permits/forestproducts/?cid=FSBDEV3_004473.

· Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, for New Year’s Day. Offices will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

To prepare for a trip to the Mendocino, tell a friend or relative where you are going and when you are returning. Carry emergency equipment and appropriate maps in your vehicle and remember that food, gas, and lodging are not available on the forest road network or within forest boundaries.

Know before you go. Check the weather forecast and be prepared for winter conditions. Be aware that conditions may change suddenly in the high country. It’s important to remember that cell phone coverage is not reliable in many areas of the forest.

Visitors are reminded that the Ranch fire area on the southern end of the forest remains closed, including the off-highway-vehicle trail system.
