Sen.McGuire voices support for governor’s actions on emergency preparedness

SACRAMENTO – State Sen. Mike McGuire, whose district includes Lake County, has offered his support of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s new executive actions to prioritize and accelerate the state’s response to wildfires.

“These mega wildland fires have been devastating to this great state and we all need to work together to ensure a more proactive and effective emergency response system. The safety of our communities depends on it. We are grateful to see the steps Gov. Newsom is taking in his first week in office responding to our new normal and we look forward to working with him and the Legislature on enhanced fire prevention, response and emergency planning and technology,” said McGuire.

“Sixty percent of Lake County’s land mass has been impacted by wildland fire since 2015 and the results have been devastating to residents and municipal budgets,” McGuire added. “We have been working with the Department of Finance and the county of Lake on this proposal for months and we are beyond appreciative to Gov. Newsom and Gov. Brown for backfilling the property tax losses that are still being felt since the Valley fire.”
