Board members Carol Kunze and Sandra Schubert were elected co-Presidents of the organization replacing longtime President Andrew Fulks. Victoria Brandon moved from Vice President to Board Secretary. Steve Drown will stay as Board Treasurer.
“After 14 years as President, I wanted to refocus my energy toward Tuleyome’s public access programs, including trail planning, construction, and land conservation”, said Fulks. “I will stay on the board and devote my energies to these issues. After the fires of 2018, I’ll be leading most of our restoration efforts, including substantial reconstruction of the Berryessa Peak trail after the County fire. Carol and Sandy have the depth of experience, passion, and leadership skills to continue driving Tuleyome to do great things for the people and the lands within our region.”
Fulks is also leading Tuleyome’s volunteer-effort to design, construct and ensure public access for the Yolo County’s Valley Vista Regional Park trail network, Tuleyome’s Silver Spur Ranch in Lake County, and Huber Ranch in Solano County which is adjacent to the University of California’s Cold Canyon Natural Reserve.
Schubert, who is looking forward to working with Tuleyome on Berryessa Snow Mountain Management planning, embraces her new responsibilities. “My predecessors have accomplished much. I am honored to continue their work conserving, and providing access to, our lands with this unique organization.”
Schubert teaches environmental law and policy at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and runs her own firm, Schubert Legal Strategies. Previously, she was counsel on the Washington staffs of Senators Barbara Boxer and Harry Reid and served as Undersecretary for the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
Kunze, a 10-year veteran of the Board, also referenced the past but looked to the future: “We were instrumental in the designation of the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument in 2015, and we should have an equally large role in the development of the management plan for the new monument.” Kunze has been supervising a seven-mile trail construction project near Lake Berryessa in Napa county.
In addition to the officers listed above, current board members include Glen Holstein, Steve Greco, Jeff Falyn and Lyndsay Dawkins. Full bios of all board members are available at http://tuleyome.org/aboutus/ .
In other transitions, Tuleyome co-founders Chad Roberts and Bob Schneider retired from the Board this past year, as did Judy and John Ahmann. At its upcoming March board meeting, Tuleyome will honor the organization’s founding board members who have stepped down over the last two years – Roberts, Schneider and Jim Eaton. This honor will take the form of custom bench installations on Tuleyome-conserved land significant to the honorees and the organization.
