MIDDLETOWN, Calif. – On Friday, May 3, the eve of its fifth anniversary, Middletown’s Gibson Museum & Cultural Center will introduce expanded hours for visitors to explore its ever-changing exhibits.

Gibson will now be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It had previously opened at noon.

The museum will remain open with Middletown’s First Friday events on May 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. with art and music in the garden.

Special tours at other times or on other days, for groups of five or more, can be arranged by calling Voris Brumfield at 707-295-7174.

The new hours align with those of the other Museums of Lake County – the Historic Schoolhouse Museum in Lower Lake and the Historic Courthouse Museum in Lakeport. The Lakeport museum is also open Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Currently, Gibson is featuring the Higgins and Menzio families in its ongoing series honoring the families that have contributed to Middletown history.

Rotating exhibits from the county museum system are also featured at Gibson. Permanent displays include artifacts that recall the history of south Lake County’s quicksilver mining and mineral springs resorts, local American Indians, and the geological and archaeological characteristics of the area.

Gibson Museum is located at 21267 Calistoga Road (Highway 29), opposite Middletown Square.
