CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. – Longtime Soroptimist International of Clear Lake member Fawn Williams installed newly elected officers for the 2019-20 fiscal year at the annual Fiesta Party in Clearlake Oaks.

“For several years we have combined our internal fund raising event with our officer installation ceremony,” she said.

“We work hard all year to raise funds for local programs and at the end of the year we have a party to celebrate accomplishments under our past president, install our new officers and raise a few dollars to cover day to day expenses associated with running our nonprofit,” Williams said.

Soroptimist International of Clear Lake is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

“I look forward to a productive year, especially our programs to support women pursuing educational goals, an important step towards achieving social and economic prosperity,” incoming President Tina Scott said.

Scott noted the importance of member recruitment and participation. “Recruiting new members is an important goal,” she said.

“We are fortunate that many of our members are retired and can attend our midday meetings, they are a dedicated and hard working group,” Scott said. “But we all agree it’s important to reach out to more women and to encourage younger women to join our work to benefit local girls and women who need a helping hand up.”

Towards this end, Scott said she plans to continue hosting evening socials around the lake, a project instituted under the leadership of outgoing President Ami Landrum.

“We’ve found this is a way to meet potential new members and more importantly, get the word out about how the organization works to improve the lives of local women and girls,” Scott said.

Anyone interested in learning how the club supports Lake County’s women and girls is encouraged to drop in for conversation with Soroptimist members over drinks and appetizers at the next club social scheduled for August in Middletown. Specifics will be announced prior to the event on the club’s Facebook page.
