Through the series of housing fairs held since May 2018, more than 500 Lake County households have directly received information on these programs, with the Spanish and English language community USDA Housing Fair on March 16 serving well over 100 attendees.
To date, 35 households have closed on loans. Several other households have received certificates of eligibility allowing them to purchase or build, have completed the application process, are under construction, or are in escrow.
Lake County residents may be assisted in purchasing an existing home or building a new one through the USDA Single-Family Housing loan programs which help moderate to low-income individuals and households purchase homes, build equity, and increase their investment in the community.
Highlights of the programs include no down payment, no mortgage insurance, and interest rates as low as 1 percent for eligible buyers.
Loans are available to all individuals and households that meet criteria such as income levels, credit scores, and stable income.
Several local builders and developers are collaborating and have approved plans for new stick-built and manufactured home construction. Renovated homes around the county are available as well.
The Lake County Economic Development Corp. works with a certified USDA Direct Loan Packager and offers program office hours at 3895 Main St. in Kelseyville.
