CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The Clear Lake Soroptimist Club is holding its fourth annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre, “Totally Rad, 80s Prom Gone Bad.”
Join the group on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Clearlake Senior Community Center in Clearlake on 3245 Bowers Ave. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the event stay local and will be used to help girls, women and their families.
Thousands of dollars in cash grants have been given to deserving girls and women to help them pursue educational goals and make a better life for themselves and their families. Most of the girls and women served by the club are escaping poverty, domestic violence, homelessness and more.
Once homeless, in an abusive relationship and struggling to care for her baby, one recent grant recipient had begun to turn her life around when she received a cash grant from the club to help with school expenses.
“Through hard work and dedication I know I can achieve my educational and life goals,” she said upon receiving her grant.
Another recent recipient lost her son and endured domestic violence. She pulled herself from a downward spiral and began turning her life around. She used her grant to pursue a higher education.
“I’ve turned my life around and the cash award was the vital boost I needed to continue working towards a master’s degree in social work,” she said.
Other recipients have gone on to own businesses – like Jenn Allen-Malinowski, owner of “The Wholly Bowl” in Lakeport who said, “Thanks to my cash award, today, I’m living the dream.”
