Forest seeks comments on off-highway vehicle grant proposals

WILLOWS, Calif. – The Mendocino National Forest is asking for public input on its grant proposals to the California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division, or OHMVR.

The funds will be used to enhance and manage off-highway vehicle, or OHV, motorized recreation on National Forest System lands.

The grant proposal supports law enforcement activities such as public information and education, enforcement and resource protection as well as ground operations like maintaining trails and equipment, operating water systems and monitoring trail conditions.

“Public participation is an important component of the grant proposal process,” said Forest Engineer Shannon Pozas. “The MNF’s OHV program is widely known as a ‘model’ of successful and innovative management by both the OHV community and environmental interest groups. We appreciate the support we receive which enables us to manage this recreation program, protect natural resources and interact with the public to promote safe use of these public lands.”

The public will be able to review and comment on the MNF’s preliminary grant applications by visiting http://olga.ohv.parks.ca.gov/egrams_ohmvr/user/home.aspx from March 5 to May 4, 2020.
