UCCE hosts virtual workshops on growing your own food

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – This is the year to improve your skills in home gardening.

University of California Cooperative Extension is sponsoring a virtual workshop series focused on growing your own food.

Topics will include caring for your garden, soil health, and growing cool and warm season vegetables.

These workshops are intended for anyone interested in gardening in the North Coast.

Presenters are Glenn Mcgourty, the UCCE Mendocino plant science and viticulture farm advisor and Kate Frey, a garden expert from Walla Walla, Washington.

The workshops take place from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on the following dates:

– Saturday, April 18: “Understanding and Improving Your Garden Soil.”
– Saturday, April 25: “Growing Cool Season Vegetables” (leafy greens and many root crops).
– Saturday, May 2: “Growing Warm Season Vegetables” (tomatoes, squashes, melons, fresh herbs).
– Saturday, May 9: “Caring for Your Garden” (weed control, irrigation, pest management).

Registration is free but limited and required to receive the Zoom link.
