City of Clearlake plans temporary closure of Austin Park grass area

CLEARLAKE, Calif. – The city of Clearlake will temporarily close all grass areas of Austin Park beginning Wednesday, March 3.

The original hydroseeding performed last spring failed to properly take hold due to problems with the new irrigation system.

Therefore, in an effort to provide the grass in the park that the community wants, another hydroseeding operation will begin on March 8.

The grass areas of the park will be fenced off for approximately 30 days – depending on weather conditions – to avoid disruption of the hydroseeded mulch and prevent damage to the new grass.

The goal is to have Austin Park ready for warm weather and the eventual return of outdoor events and community gatherings.

The tennis courts, basketball courts, playground and skate park will remain open, as well as the outer sidewalk along the streets.

The city thanked community members for their patience and understanding as work continues to improve the parks.
