Rotary Club of Kelseyville Sunrise Launches Thanksgiving Food Drive

KELSEYVILLE, Calif. – Kelseyville Rotary launched a drive to gather food staples just in time for Thanksgiving.

Food will be collected through Nov. 20.

Collection bins are located at the Grocery Outlet in Lakeport and Riviera Foods in Kelseyville.

Shoppers are encouraged to grab a can or two (or more) during their shopping trips and drop them into the collection bins.

Items that are needed include peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables and fruits, spaghetti sauce, tuna fish and canned meats. Cans with pop top lids are especially helpful.

The food collected will be donated to the Kelseyville Food Pantry. Food Pantry organizers ask donors to please make sure that the food items donated are not expired, as they cannot use food with an expired use by date.

This effort will complement the food drive being held at Kelseyville High School with the food items also going to the Kelseyville Food Pantry.

Kelseyville High School teacher and Rotary Interact Advisor Virginia Hamlin has organized a food drive at the High School. She and her crew of teacher aides are busy gathering donations of unexpired nonperishable food from students and keeping track of the number of cans per student in each class.

The class with the highest average number of cans per student will be rewarded with a breakfast party.

The Kelseyville Food Pantry, a collaboration of the Presbyterian, United Methodist, and Unitarian Universalist churches in Kelseyville has been feeding the hungry in Kelseyville and beyond since 2012.

The Food Pantry is open the second and fourth Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church Friendship Hall, located at 4021 Third St.
