Lake County 4-H youth to be honored by Board of Supervisors for leadership and achievement

LAKEPORT, Calif. — On Aug. 12, the Lake County Board of Supervisors will recognize three outstanding youth from Lake County 4-H for their achievements in public speaking, shooting sports and civic leadership.

The presentation is sponsored by District 5 Supervisor Jessica Pyska, who will present the youth with awards during the public meeting.

The honorees — Phenix Rain, Saphera Edwards and Emmy Hayes — excelled in this year’s 4-H Presentation Day competitions at the county, regional and state levels.

All three received top honors at the California State 4-H Presentation Day at UC Davis and earned the coveted Presentation Day pin by giving at least five community presentations.

Lake County 4-H Community Education Specialist Jean Goulart will introduce the youth and highlight their accomplishments.

In addition to their public speaking success, the youth earned gold, silver and bronze awards in the State 4-H Archery Postal Shoot, and they actively participate in the 4-H Citizenship and Leadership Group, which is currently fundraising for a trip to the 2026 Ignite National 4-H Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

Lake County 4-H is a program of the University of California Cooperative Extension that provides youth with hands-on learning opportunities in leadership, agriculture, science, and citizenship.
