LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — The Mendocino National Forest is continuing prescribed burn operations in the Northshore Project through next week and will continue off and on through spring.
Smoke is visible from communities around Clear Lake.
As the large machine-made piles continue to smolder, there may be some visible glow overnight.
Officials said everything is holding within its footprint and is being patrolled.
One goal of this prescribed burn is community protection for the residents who live adjacent to the forest, but this burn is also an important part of site prep ahead of replanting that will occur later in the spring.
Burning conditions this week have been ideal, and firefighters will continue to make the most of the favorable window into next week.
More information about that burn will be shared next week on their Facebook page.
