By Lake County News Reports | Jun 22, 2026

CLEARLAKE OAKS, Calif. — An educational workshop on the growing threat of the Mediterranean oak borer, an invasive pest now impacting Lake County’s historic oak trees, will take place this week.

The event will be held beginning at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at 12980 Lakeland St. in Clearlake Oaks.

Organizers say the workshop will focus on how to identify infested trees, reduce risks to private property, and apply best management practices to protect oak woodlands.

The event is open to homeowners, land managers and public agencies concerned about the spread of the pest.

The workshop is a collaborative effort involving the Clearlake Oaks Glenhaven Business Association, Redbud Audubon, Clearlake Oaks Firewise Community and the Sierra Club Redwood Chapter Forest Committee.

Dinner will be available for $20, while the presentation itself is free.

Advance registration is required; to register email membership@clearlakeoaks.org.

This workshop comes as community leaders work to raise awareness and build a coordinated response to protect the region’s iconic oak trees from further damage.
