Shields: Showing their true colors

Joyce Overton, a member of Clearlake's City Council, on Thursday, Dec. 11, nominated Judy Thein as our next Mayor for 2010.

Judy Thein has consistently turned her back on what the citizens of Clearlake have clearly wanted as a direction for their city to go in. She had voted on most occasions according to the city administrator's recommendation, disregarding public outcry.

Not only has she forgotten her campaign promises but is very motivated towards her own agenda.

Obviously Joyce Overton – who prides herself on listening to public opinion, is quite aware the public is not happy with Judy's voting habits – has not only forgotten her campaign promises but has shown her true colors in nominating Judy as our next mayor and subjecting the citizens to more of the same.

This nomination quickly followed Judy Thein then nominating Joyce Overton for vice mayor.

This may seem quite coincidental to some but to those of us who know the bad blood between the two and attend council meetings regularly, it seems scripted and politically motivated.

Joyce, who is currently running for supervisor, obviously by this action does not have the city of Clearlake's best interest in mind. Why would anyone think that she would have the county's best interest in mind if elected supervisor?

Let's vote out the ones that continue to keep our city looking like a third world community but also that keep the good ol' boys club alive and well continuing on into 2010.

Bill Shields lives in Clearlake.
