Shock: Realizing the vision for Westside Community Park

Charlie Jolin is a visionary. He wanted to see children and adults playing soccer, baseball and softball on fields of a caliber that would attract tournaments to Lakeport. His community has been developing that dream for the past 15 years.

The generous donations of materials, services and financial support from individuals, businesses and organizations that recognize the value of Charlie’s vision have made Westside Community Park on the western boundary of Lakeport a major recreational facility for the region.

The family of Victor and Jane Barnes and the Keeling-Barnes Family Foundation are grateful to Charlie, and to the Westside Community Park Committee, the Lakeport Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Lakeport City Council for naming Phase II of the park as Jane Barnes Field.

This naming honors Jane Barnes for her years of advocacy and involvement in programs for youth in Lake County.

The park committee continues to develop and expand the park. Contributions of any amount to support these efforts may be sent at any time to Dennis Rollins, chairman, 1350 Berry St., Lakeport.

More information is available at www.westsidecommunitypark.org .

A new season of soccer has started; the community is invited to visit your park and cheer on the youth and adults who are enjoying the results of your support.

Wilda Shock is the daughter of Victor and Jane Barnes. She lives in Lakeport, Calif.
