I am getting very tired of people saying that the city of Clearlake is giving $7 million to Lowe’s to entice them to locate here. This is not true.
What the city wants to do is to prepare the airport site so it will be attractive to businesses that might want to locate here. The city wants to make an investment in the city and the investment will be repaid in developer impact fees.
I repeat: The money will be paid back to the redevelopment agency. The city is not subsidizing anyone.
And as the airport shopping center grows, the city will benefit with jobs, property taxes, sales taxes and local stores for people to shop at.
It looks like a good investment to me.

On behalf of our fundraising committee at the Order of Sons of Italy Nice in Lake County, I would like to thank Tulip Winery for their generosity once again.
This very special local business donated white, red and dessert vino to pair with our Italian finger foods for the second annual wine tasting event on Sunday, Aug. 22.
All proceeds went to the club and we had a lovely day.
Many of our members made wonderful foods: Chris Belka, Henrietta Bellone, Fred and Barbara Castaldo, Duane Clarke, Maria Giovanni, Ted Herrera, Sue Lewis, John Linda and his lovely daughter Chris, Ruth Luber, Rosalie and Bob Sonnenburg, Angie Staiti and Anita Wienke.
My wine prizes were added to by a wonderful basket made by Henrietta Bellone. Plus, my husband Duane came through by washing the dishes, once again.
Debbie Clarke is the historian for the Sons of Italy club in Nice.
