
Evelyn Louise (Thompson) Curtis
July 15, 1930 — Aug. 7, 2023
Evelyn was born on July 15, 1930, in Great Falls, Montana, to Frank Sterling and Violet Elizabeth Thompson.
The family moved from Great Falls, Montana, to Mariposa, California, in 1947 due to Frank’s severe asthma.
Evelyn graduated from Mariposa High School in 1948 and then attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, for two years.
She taught school for one year in Bear Valley (Mariposa County) on an emergency credential until the school closed.
After that, she worked as a draftsman in the engineering department at Castle Air Force Base near Merced, California, until her marriage to Walter E. Curtis in 1954.
They lived in Stockton and then in Sacramento for two years, before moving to Lodi.
In 2004 they moved to Lakeport, California, to be near their daughter Kathy.
Walter was employed by Caltrans (California Department of Transportation) until his retirement in 1987.
Evelyn was active in Bible studies, Women’s Missionary Fellowship and Golden Age Fellowship at Temple Baptist Church in Lodi where she also served as church organist for 34 years.
After moving to Lakeport she was active at Grace Church Kelseyville and also the Lakeport Gideon Camp.
Evelyn is predeceased by her husband, Walter.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Medlin (Paul) of Kelseyville; son David Curtis (Esther) of Turlock and Daniel Curtis (Linda) of Martinez; six grandchildren, Andrew Medlin, Michael Medlin (Stacey), Rachael Avila (Adrian), Kerrie Nichols (Dustin), Rebecca Martin (Dalton) and Christopher Curtis (Beth); and 13 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. at Grace Church, Kelseyville.
