Clifford H. Madison

January 3, 1931 - Dec. 6, 2025

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Clifford Hugh Madison passed away peacefully in his home on Dec. 6 at the remarkable age of 94.

An avid hunter, Cliff loved spending time out on the range, camping and hunting with his friends. Cliff also enjoyed gardening, reading a good war story or western, spending time with his family, and telling stories that always kept you guessing.

After graduating from Upper Lake High School, Cliff was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He spent two years on the East Coast, where he was assigned to a missile unit. Cliff loved telling stories about all he did and saw during his time in the military.

Following his military service, Cliff went on to college at Chico State, completing his degree in biology before going on to work at Lake County Mosquito Abatement, where he spent 35 years at a job he loved.

Retirement suited Cliff well, as he spent his time with his grandkids and friends, hunting and, of course, storytelling. He also enjoyed his daily walks and the monthly luncheons with his old friends, who all shared the same life experiences and age group, aka the Rat Pack.

Cliff was preceded in death by his wife, Marlee, of 25 years, whom he always held deeply in his heart. He is survived by his ex-wife, Jeannie Madison; son, Carl; stepchildren, Janice Mills and Gary and Allen Peront; grandchildren, Andrea and Katie Madison, Nicole and Brian McMurray; and many great-grandchildren.

Per his wishes, there will not be a service. Instead, his family and friends will continue to honor him the way he would have liked best, by sharing stories and remembering a life well lived. If you would like to share a memory or photo in his honor, please visit his memory board at
