Terry and Nan Kotte both passed peacefully, months apart in 2025.
Terry (Terry Jean Kotte) was born in Jamestown, New York in 1946. His father (Terry Kotte Sr.) was from Albania and his mother (Kathryn Kotte) was from Alabama. He joked that he was an Albanian Alabamian.
He loved his sister Kathy (Loren) and brother Mike (Sharon). The family moved from New York to the Bay Area, where Terry attended Alameda High School.
Nan (Nannie Ould Pettyjohn) was born in Lynchburg, Virginia in 1947 to her father Walker S. Pettyjohn Jr. and mother Frances Pettyjohn. Nan loved her sister, Susan (Cecil) and brothers, Walker III (Sydney), Jim (Sherry) and John (Terri).
Nan came to San Francisco after graduating from St. Andrews University in North Carolina. Nan cherished her family in Virginia throughout her entire life, even with the miles between them.
Terry and Nan met through mutual friends in the Bay Area and married in May 1971. They welcomed their son, Cassidy Ould Kotte (Racquel) and left the Bay Area, moving to Laytonville. There, they built a cabin with a garden by a creek and had their daughter, Merry Brook Marcher (Joel).
Eventually the family moved to Lakeport, California, in 1982. Terry worked at the Geysers and as a hazardous material specialist in construction, while Nan worked for Lakeport Unified School District for 27 years.
They enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, yet always found comfort in being together at home.
They are proceeded in death by family and friends, especially their beloved yellow Labrador, Toby.
They are loved and missed by many … brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, a son, a daughter, grandchildren, great grandchildren, lifelong friends and wonderful neighbors.
Two lives woven together with love.
In lieu of flowers, please reach out to someone you love and hold them tight for as long as you can.
