LAKE COUNTY, Calif. – Traditional Native American visitation will be held at Big Valley Gymnasium starting on Friday, March 29, at 1 p.m. and continue through the weekend.
Graveside funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery on Monday, April 1, at 11 a.m.

Mark William Cabaniss
1958 - 2019
LAKEPORT, Calif. – Mark William Cabaniss, age 60, died unexpectedly at home in Lakeport on March 15, 2019.
Born in Akron, Ohio, in 1958, he was the son of Margaret and George Cabaniss and grew up in Silver Lake, Ohio.
He was a graduate of Kent State University and the University of Southern California School of Law. He practiced law in Lake County, and worked for Lake County’s indigent defense contract.
Survivors include daughters, Meredith and Colette Cabaniss; and sons, Mark and Johnny Cabaniss, all of California.
Additional survivors include his sister, Anne Cabaniss of New Albany, Indiana; and brothers, George Cabaniss of Akron and Kevin Cabaniss (Crissy) of St. Louis Mo. He is also survived by his former wife, Patricia Cabaniss of Ukiah, California.
Mark was funny, stubborn and inventive.
When he had his wisdom teeth pulled, he became tired of his restricted liquid diet and solved the problem by blending a Big Mac, fries and a chocolate shake in a blender.
He hand-raised a baby squirrel, could compose hilarious and irreverent eBay ads, appreciated offbeat movies, loved nature and often challenged his grandmother to pie baking contests. He propped her photo up on his desk while taking the bar exam for good luck.
Most of all, Mark was a good father who loved his children more than can be put into words. Few fathers are ever able to have as much fun as Mark did being with his children.
He had many friends who valued his easy going and gentle manner and ability to make everyone feel appreciated and interesting.
A memorial get together will be held on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m. at the Ledges shelter house at Virginia Kendall Park in Peninsula, Ohio.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA – Earl passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2019.
Born to Earl A. and Ethel Schleif in Ottawa, Kansas, Earl would grow up on a dairy farm and graduate high school there. As soon as he graduated, he was off to Southern California with his friend to find new adventures.
Earl met and married his wife Mary and had four children. They moved north and in 1965 he bought the Texaco gas station in Clearlake Highlands – Earl's Texaco.
His early years were spent with family and friends, picnics, outings on the boat, fishing/camping trips to the ocean, dancing at the resorts, car racing at Lakeport Speedway and riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed music, singing and dancing all of his life and later was part of the church choir at the Trinity Baptist Church in Ukiah, Calif.
Later, he would build a home in Redwood Valley and started Earl's Auto and Tire on Leslie Street in Ukiah. For 60 years of his life he was the best auto mechanic around! He loved going to work each day, visiting with customers that would become life long friends.
Earl owned too many cars to count over the years, boats, an airplane and many motorcycles. He enjoyed lunches, bingo and the monthly dances at the Ukiah Senior Center and bingo at all of the casinos.
Earl was a sweet, wonderful, kind, generous, loving man with a smile adored by everyone that knew him. We will miss him so much!
Survived by children, Lynda (Jack) Mathews, Jim Schleif (Joan Smith), Alan (Jackie) Schleif and Marty Schleif (Tina Espinosa); grandchildren, Heather Murray and Jack, Donny and Walker Schleif; many great-grandchildren; sister, Ann (David) Arnold; 4 nieces and their families and long time best friend Shasta Boardman.
Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary on Monday, March 25, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m.
