Amos Hayhurst passed away June 4, 2013. He was 92 years old.

Amos was born in Commerce, Okla., to Amos Hayhurst Sr. and Cora Stone.

His journey to California was colorful and sometimes dangerous. He rode the rails twice before he was fifteen and he finally ended up in Yosemite, Calif.

He then joined the California Conservation Corps and helped to build many of the trails that are now part of the park.

Amos joined the Navy in 1944 and stayed in until the end of the war. After the war, he built a moving company which ran for many years in Richmond, Calif.

Amos and his wife, Florence, moved to Kelseyville, Calif., in 1970. He loved Kelseyville and he was happiest when he worked in his shop doing woodwork.

Amos had four children, Paula Artie, Kathie Tyson and Michael Hayhurst, and Douglas Hayhurst who died at age 3 months. He had five grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Elena, Michelle, and Morgan.

Amos was funny, flirty, irreverent, and a force of nature.

We will miss him dearly.

Services will be at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 6716 Live Oak Drive in Kelseyville, at 2 p.m. Friday, June 14.

For further information call Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 707-263-0357 or 707-994-5611, or visit www.chapelofthelakes.com .
