LAKEPORT, Calif. — Sharmin Elaine Rodriguez, 44, a resident of Lakeport, passed away on May 25, 2023, after a six-year battle with cancer.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1979, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to John and Cindy Quick.

After graduating from Los Lunas High School, Sharmin worked as a poker dealer and later became a casino auditor. She went on to earn a degree at the University of Phoenix.

Sharmin was preceded in death by her mother, Cindy Quick; brother-in-law, Mark Hogue; brother-in-law, Thomas Hayden Jr.; and niece, Melanie Hayden.

Sharmin is survived by her husband, Thomas Rodriguez, and daughter, Jessica Quick-Rodriguez of Lakeport; father, John Quick and step-mother, Bonna Mae Quick of Los Lunas, New Mexico; sisters, Sherry Sutherland, Sharla Hayden, Sheryl Rodgers and husband Shawn of Los Lunas; sisters, Shannon Hogue, Sharon Hannah of West Allis, Wisconsin; mother-in-law, Jana Perkins; sister-in-law Jackie Rodriguez of Los Lunas; sister-in-law, Theresa Rodriguez of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Eddie Hannah of Socorro, New Mexico; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 160 James St. NW, Los Lunas, NM 87031.

Family will gather in the Relief Society room starting at 10 a.m.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. — Russell Robert Oertel (Russ) of Middletown fought a brief but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer and passed from this world on May 17, 2023, at age 64.

He was beloved by all who knew him — family, friends and work colleagues throughout the years — largely because of his genuineness, kind concern for others and easy-going manner.

Russ was born in Petaluma in 1959 and graduated from Petaluma High School in 1977.

After high school, he attended Santa Rosa Junior College and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in government journalism from Sacramento State University in 1981.

Though his earliest jobs were in politics, he worked in human resources for most of his life, ending his career with the Hansel Auto Group as the recruiting and onboarding manager.

Russ’ faith was very important to him, and even while hospitalized the last few weeks of his life, he inspired and encouraged others.

He is predeceased by his mother, Shirley (Hayden) Oertel, and father, Robert Oertel, and is survived by his wife, Esther (Garel) Oertel; sons, Robert and William Oertel; daughter-in-law, Samantha (Scott) Oertel; granddaughter, Lilybelle Oertel; and sisters, Julie (Oertel) Traverso and Susan Oertel.

A memorial Mass will be said on Friday, June 16, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Middletown, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17, at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Petaluma.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Jack Daniel Inong was a beloved tribal member and traditional dancer of Big Valley Rancheria.

Jack entered into rest on June 3, 2023. He is welcomed home to his eternal resting place by his grandmothers, Leota and Lorena.

Jack is survived by his parents, Eugene and Leah; and brother, Pac. He will be missed dearly by numerous family members.

Traditional visitation will start at Big Valley Gym on June 10 at 11 a.m. with graveside funeral service at St. Mary’s Cemetery on June 13 at 11 a.m.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Mary Dunne died peacefully with family by her side on March 23, 2023, at the age of 93.

She was born Mary Catherine (“Kitty”) Shaul on Dec. 29, 1929, to Raymond Cary Shaul and Martha Victoria Shaul, in Chicago, Illinois.

The young family soon moved to Lakeport, California, where Mary and her two younger siblings, Frank and Martha Jane, lived until the family moved to San Francisco when Mary was 12.

Mary met Robert (Bob) Dunne on a blind date, and the two were married when she was 18 and he 20.

Bob and Mary raised four children in San Francisco, and lived a full and happy life together that lasted nearly 60 years until Bob’s passing.

The family enjoyed many camping and boating adventures together, and a summer home in Lakeport.

Mary spent many years sailing the seas of Europe and San Francisco Bay with Bob, exploring foreign countries, and traveling around the US with their trailer and beloved dog, Daisy.

Mary was kind and funny, and a truly caring and supportive mother and grandmother, who loved and was loved by all.

She is survived by her children, Cary (Darlene) Dunne, Dennis Dunne, Catherine (“Cat”) Dunne, Linda (Steve) Cresci and Nora Murphy Dunne (mother of two grandchildren); along with nine grandchildren; six-plus great-grandchildren; her brother, Frank, and sister-in-law Dolly Johnson.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Bob and younger sister Martha Jane.

At her request, Mary’s and Bob’s ashes will be dispersed together into the ocean they loved, and her family will celebrate her life together during summer.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — It is with heavy hearts and sadness that the family of William (Bill) Kearney send him off to heaven.

Bill passed on May 20, 2023, two days after his 81st birthday. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 18, 1942 to his mother, Leticia Alstrand and father, Harry Kearney.

Bill has two loving sisters, Karen (Larry) Linhart and Joni (Dean) Rosenthal.

Bill was raised by his tenant farmer family in Osceola, Iowa where he lived his youth and graduated from high school.

Bill played football and received a scholarship to play college football for the University of Iowa. After a hand accident in his freshman year, Bill lost his scholarship and went on to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa where he graduated from the School of Pharmacy.

After graduating college, Bill was drafted by the United States Army. He served most of his Army career in Korea on the DMZ in a MASH unit. He was honorably discharged in July 1969 after spending time in the Army Reserve.

Bill started his pharmacy career in South Carolina, then moved to Denver, Colorado. He was a pharmacist and manager for Walgreens. Bill was transferred to Salt Lake City Utah, where he met his future wife, Dana.

After a short courtship, he married Dana and became a loving father to her two children, Mark and Brandi. The family moved to Petaluma, California and after a year of marriage, they were blessed with beautiful twin daughters, Heather and Holly. Bill became a father of four after 30 years of bachelorhood.

In 1980 Bill moved his family to Lake County where he started Northlake Medical Pharmacy. While struggling to build a new business, he worked weekends at Sutter Lakeside Hospital.

After 25 years in business, Bill was asked by his best friend, Bill Brunetti, to open a second location at Bruno's Foods. Bill and Dana ran Northlake Pharmacy for 40 years. He sold the business at age 76 and retired.

During his life in Lake County Bill was a member and president of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce and Early Lake Lions. He belonged to the Lakeport Masonic Lodge, and was a 32-degree member of the Scottish Rite. Bill was on the Sutter Lakeside Hospital board for 12 years and a past president. He was a member of the Derby Hat Club, he helped financially to start a local chapter of the Elks Lodge and has been a member of the Elks for 60 years.

Bill was also one of the starting members of the bass tournament on our beautiful lake. He was honored by the Chamber of Commerce, Stars of Lake County, Small Business of the Year and Lifetime Achievement.

He loved Lake County and spent so much time trying to help Lake County be a better place for everyone.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Sally Kearney, as well as his sister, Karen Linhart.

He will be missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Dana Kearney; children, Mark Williams (Rachel), Brandi Campos (Ronnie), Heather Zertuche and Holly Cable; 10 grandchildren, Bradley and Aidan Williams, Kaileigh Klammes (Rich), Tyler, Jackson and Grace Cable, Kendall (Daniel) Armendarez, Santana Zertuche, and Jacob and Ricky Campos; and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Grayson Klammes.

There will be a celebration of life for Bill on Saturday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Buckingham Club House, 2850 Eastlake Drive in Kelseyville.

We are sad to announce the passing of Martin Lemke, of Fernandina Beach, Florida.

He died at 82 years old on May 17, 2023.

He was born on April 26, 1941, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Harold and Faye Lemke.

Martin graduated high school at Upper Lake High in 1959, and was an artisan of body and fender work and a boat captain in Hawaii.

He was a lifelong biker who enjoyed boating, fishing, and hunting.

Martin was funny, caring, outgoing and quite a character.

He was preceded in death by his son, Craig Lemke, and leaves behind his sons, Brad Lemke, Rodney Lemke and Joseph Sweeney-Lemke, and his daughter, Martinique Lemke-Figus.

He also leaves behind his two sisters, Marilyn Smith and Nancy Zimmerschied; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; also, his beloved pup, Elsa.

There will be a service at Upper Lake Cemetery on Saturday, June 17, at 4 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at Upper Lake County Park from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for anyone who would like to attend.
