Barbara Sowash
Nov. 21, 1964 — Aug. 1, 2023
LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Barbara Sowash left this life on Aug. 1, 2023, due to heart and other health issues.
She was predeceased by her son, Stanley Flett, who passed in July of 2022.
She is survived by her siblings, Steven Sowash, Theresa Hart, Rose Sowash, Richard Sowash and Stella Winckler; her “significant other,” Matthew Ray; and many others.
Barbara was very outgoing, treating even strangers as friends.
Tragically, when her son died, it took a lot of the light out of her.
She spent most of her life in Rohnert Park. About 15 years ago, she moved to Lake County, where she continued work as a well-loved caregiver.
She was one of a kind and will be missed by many.
Contact her family for gathering information on Sept. 16, 2023.
Arrangements by Chapel of the Lakes Mortuary, 707-263-0357 or 707-994-5611, or visit www.chapelofthelakes.com.

Mary-Ellen was born in Hartford, Connecticut on Dec. 6, 1935, to Leonard Dugmore and Florence Anderson; her brother, Richard Dugmore, preceded her in passing.
Mary-Ellen is survived by her husband of 52 years, Chuck Martin of Clearlake Oaks, California; daughter, Kimberly Rapin and her husband, Phil of Redding, California; son, Stephen Reilley and his wife, Joy of Payette, Idaho; daughter, Cristene Fairbanks and her husband, David of Jacksonville, Oregon; stepson, Richard Martin and his wife, Nancy of Joshua Tree, California; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren scattered from Germany to Florida and clear to the West Coast.
Mary-Ellen and Chuck moved to Clearlake Oaks in 1992 after Chuck retired from his career with the Department of Defense.
After building their dream home in the Clearlake Oaks Keys they spent 32 years of an active retirement.
They traveled by motor home and travel trailers, fished for bass from their boat docked by their back door, and really enjoyed the fruits of their combined labor down in Southern California.
Chuck is a classic car aficionado and has built multiple award-winning cars; the epitome of his effort was his 1967 Mustang convertible which has won several best of show awards in the 25 plus years it was entered into competition.
Mary-Ellen and Chuck traveled extensively on the show circuit and shared many memorable experiences with some really enjoyable friends and characters with the same interests.
Mary-Ellen will be dearly missed but will be long remembered for her smile and warm loving personality.
The family is planning a gathering at a date to be determined.
