James A. Tarpley II — ‘Jimbo’
1958 — 2022

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Sad to say we lost my father, James Andrew Tarpley II, better known as Jimbo, on Christmas Eve.

He had many names, but his favorite was Papa!

Jimbo was born on Dec. 9, 1958, to James Andrew Tarpley and Sally Esther Tarpley in Lakeport, California.

He lived his entire life in Upper Lake where he attended elementary, middle and went on to graduate from Upper Lake High School in the Class of 1977.

In 1992 Jimbo joined the Army, where his favorite memories and stories were of driving Humvees for his sergeant while in Germany.

Jimbo received an honorable discharge in March of 1996. When he returned home from the Army, he worked for his father at Jim’s Pumps for a few years before moving on to try other occupations. He spent many years washing dishes at Judy’s Junction, which he enjoyed because of the friendships he built with his customers.

In 2001 Jimbo’s only grandchild was born and changed the remainder of his life. Jimbo was overjoyed at being a grandfather and spent every moment possible with his grandson.

He spent his free time fishing, hunting and driving around. Every weekend he could be found watching car races, from here at our local track to hours away, it didn’t matter to him, he just loved to watch the races and support the racers whom he had developed great friendships with.

He had many friends, but notably his closest lifelong friends, who were more like family are, the Brackett Family.

Jimbo had a huge heart and was loved by all who met him. Never a dull moment when he was around.

Jimbo will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Sally Tarpley; his grandmother, Grace; and his niece, Nikki.

Jimbo leaves behind his sister, Deb (Chris) Gordon; brother, Jeff (Mary) Tarpley; daughter, Jamie (Joe) Fernandez; grandson, Junior (Emily) Fernandez; great-grandchildren, Ava and Jose IV; and nephews, Robert, Tony and Jeffrey.

The family is having a celebration of life on Saturday Jan. 14, at noon at the North Shore Event Center, formerly the Sons of Italy, located at 2817 E Highway 20 in Nice.

Dallas Woll
1946-2022

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Dallas Harold Woll passed away peacefully with his last remaining sibling, Mary Hale, by his side Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, after a long battle with leukemia.

Dallas lived life with an admirable level of enthusiasm; he worked hard but also focused on having a good time. He taught his children the value of experiencing life with a lively sense of humor.

After spending his childhood in the remote and tiny mill towns in the redwood forests of northwestern California, Dallas joined the Air Force and spent a memorable time in Japan.

He married Theresa Woll in 1972 and they had three children, Matt, Luke and Lily.

Dallas and Theresa started a very successful Roto Rooter franchise in Lake County in 1978, which they ran for 36 years. He was passionate about the business and enjoyed staying up to date on the latest in the sanitation world.

Dallas led life with gusto and a determined sense of adventure. He had many great travel experiences, including riding the ferries and cruise lines in Alaska and Europe; visiting friends from the Peace Corps in Africa and the Pacific; and chartering sailboats with friends in the tropics.

He loved boating, from racing E-Scows and single-handing sloops on Clear Lake to, later in life, pontoon boating on Blue Lakes.
.
At home, he enjoyed projects like building a custom “D Woll-designed” wood splitter from old tractor parts and creating his own park with a fountain and streams.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandson, Caton, going for car rides, boating or watching trains.

Dallas inspired a sense of adventure and community-building in all those who knew him and instilled a strong work ethic in his children.

As a creative and adventurous soul, Dallas was known by many for his great sense of humor and his ability to spin a yarn.

He enjoyed and was interested in others’ ideas and successes. He touched the lives of many different people in Lake County and the world.

We imagine him driving his ‘55 Chevy Bel Air out into the sunset, pedal to the metal.

Theresa and family plan to celebrate Dallas’ life with a memorial on Jan. 7, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the Kelseyville Senior Citizen Center.

All are invited to come share memories.

Dennis Day. Courtesy photo.

LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Dennis Day passed away peacefully on Dec. 6, 2022, surrounded by his family.

He fought a long and difficult battle with bone cancer.

Dennis served in the Navy on a carrier war ship where he accepted Jesus as his savior.

He was able to travel the world on a Young Men’s Christian Association around the world tour in 1964.

Dennis then began a 32-year career with the phone company where he met his bride of 52 years, Jackie.

He loved the outdoors and all that God created. He backpacked for many years with good friends and had many adventures with them.

Through the years, he was able to travel extensively with his wife, where they met many wonderful lifelong friends.

The annual trip he continued, even through COVID, was to Sea Otter Sound Lodge in Alaska where he fished for 28 years.

He selflessly served his community and his church, and ensured his family and friends knew how much he loved them, through spending time with them; and being there when they needed help.

2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Dennis is survived by his wife Jackie; daughter, Heather; and dog, Duke.
